Ants

Ants may appear to be relatively harmless pests when compared to rodents, cockroaches, or termites, but they can actually be extremely troublesome if they are left to infest your home unchecked. This is especially true of carpenter ants. If you live in the New York City area you could be at risk for an ant infestation, and you may not even realize it.

Why Ants Are So Troublesome?

Ants can be particularly difficult pests to eliminate and it is important that you understand why they are so hard to remove, and why an exterminator will generally be more successful than the homeowner. Some of the challenges with ants include:

  • Long Lifespan – Ants have a very long lifespan compared to other types of insects. A worker ant can live over seven years, and a queen ant can live up to 15 years.
  • Massive Colonies – Although there are some small ant colonies, there are also colonies that house as many as 300,000 ants. The ants that are visible in your home are likely less than 10 percent of the total colony.
  • Invasive – Ants can squeeze into very small cracks in the sides of your house, and once they find a way in they leave a scent trail so all the other ants can find the entrance to your home as well.

The methods commercially available for treating ants also don’t work across every species. For some infestations, the only option is to find the location of the colony. We can remove other species with an application of baits or treatment. We determine which ants are around your home and deploy the most effective treatment methods.

Ants We Commonly Treat

We treat all of the ants found in this area. These include:

  • Carpenter Ants
  • Pavement Ants
  • Thief Ants
  • Odorous Ants

While some of these ants are relatively harmless, others can cause severe structural damage, and no ant infestation is welcome in your home.

Our Ant Removal Process

Our Staten Island pest control specialist have training and experience in dealing with large ant infestations, and will follow a step-by-step procedure to ensure that they are completely removed from your home.

First, we identify the ants in your home, and verify that we are proposing the proper treatment for them.

Next, we place ant baits around the interior of your home to help cut down on the number of ants inside. The baits are then brought back to the colony and a large number of ants will be killed in that way.

Next, liquid insecticide is sprayed on the inside of the home around the baseboards. This insecticide is completely safe for pets and children once it has dried completely, but it will continue to kill ants for weeks.

Finally a liquid barrier is sprayed around the outside of your home that will discourage any ants from entering your home.
