This is pest season. When the weather warms and everything starts to turn green, this is when we can expect to see a lot of pests on your property. Cockroaches, spiders, ants – they’re all here, and we’re going to see a lot of them over the next several months.
But it is also specifically a time when we get a lot of calls about stinging insects, like bees, hornets, paper wasps, and beyond. Though these bugs are present through most of the summer, this is when these pests really start to become active, and often seek out new homes that could easily be on your property.
Stinging insects are one of our specialties. You can read about our wasp nest removal here and our bee removal here. If you need help with any of these, please reach out today.
But it also means that you have to be a bit more careful. But of what? How? What does this mean for you?
- Bees Are Fine, Actually – You really don’t need to worry much about bees. We DO help move them, as bees can sting and it’s possible to accidentally bother their nest or step on one with bare feet depending on where they’re located, but you don’t need to fear them. They are as gentle as gentle can be 95% of the time. We’ll help you move bees away from you, but that’s strictly for that little bit of added protection.
- Wasps, Especially Hornets and Yellowjackets, and Not – Hornets, yellow jackets, paper wasps, and many others are all types of wasps. They’re all different species and they can all be aggressive in different ways. Paper wasps only sting if you’re near their nest, but their nests are often built very close to your property and they are aggressive. Hornets are “okay” out and about but are extraordinarily aggresive if you get near their nests. Yellow jackets are… Well, they’re jerks. They’re aggressive all the time.
Wasps we treat and wasps we kill. They’re not as gentle as bees and they’re not as useful for the environment, so if they’re on your property, it is our job to eliminate them.
One challenge, of course, is that some types of wasps – especially yellow jackets – can look like bees. That is why we encourage you to contact us for a consultation. Let us take a look, and – even if they are bees – we can provide some treatments to your property that ensure that you’re at less risk of stings, especially if they get indoors.
Bee season and wasp season are here. Make sure you’re protected. Reach out to Fillmore Pest, today.
